How to submit to Hinterland
At Hinterland we are committed to publishing the best in creative non-fiction from around the globe. We are always thrilled to feature work from established, well-known authors but have a particular interest in discovering new voices and in pieces that sit outside the usual categories: we ask only that it be a work of non-fiction.
We operate 2-3 submission windows in a year via Submittable. Do follow us on social media or sign up for our newsletter to be notified when we open for submissions. Hinterland subscribers can submit to us all year round. We aim to read all submissions within 5-6 months, and will notify you whether or not your work is accepted for publication. We pay for all the work that we publish and receive frequent interest from agents and publishers regarding our contributors.
Please send us your best work and we will endeavour to find a place for it.
We only accept creative nonfiction submissions made via Submittable. Submissions made by any other means will be returned, unopened.
What are we looking for?
We warmly embrace writing on any topic, or from any genre, we ask only that it falls somewhere in the realm of non-fiction writing.
All work should be new, previously unpublished material. If your work is subsequently accepted elsewhere, please kindly let us know.
We accept anything from 500-5000 words. We also accept extracts from longer works, or works in progress, but they must work as self-contained pieces.
We charge a small readers' fee of £3 for all submissions, redeemable as a discount against the price of subscription. Subscribers can submit their work to us for free, all year round.
We regret that, due to the number of submissions received, we cannot provide feedback.
